Egyptian Army engineers have a significant operational role in Sinai — route clearance for IEDs, barrier construction, and infrastructure support for forward operations. The North Sinai operational environment has required sustained engineer effort. Engineers also support large construction projects, which the Egyptian military has used extensively in national infrastructure programs under the current government. Career engineers may find themselves moving between operational Sinai assignments and construction project management.
