The Short Version
Be honest. Be helpful. Don't be hateful. Don't compromise anyone's safety. That covers 95% of it. Here's the other 5%.
What's Encouraged
What's Not Allowed
These are hard lines. Violations result in content removal and potential account action.
Hate speech and discrimination
Content that attacks, degrades, or dehumanizes any person or group based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin, disability, or any other protected characteristic. This includes “ironic” hate, dogwhistles, and coded language. We know what it looks like. Don't test it.
Doxxing and personal targeting
Naming private individuals for shame, harassment, or retaliation. Providing identifying details about someone in a sensitive context. Encouraging others to identify, contact, or harass specific individuals.
OPSEC violations
Specific deployment dates, times, or locations. Unit movements or operational details. Equipment capabilities or classified system information. Sub-unit identifiers combined with operational details. If you're not sure, err on the side of caution.
Threats and incitement
Threats of violence against any person or group. Encouraging self-harm or suicide. Encouraging violence or illegal activity.
Manipulation and dishonesty
Fake reviews. Coordinated rating manipulation. Impersonation. Multiple accounts to amplify content. Astroturfing.
Spam and predatory content
Unsolicited advertising. Scam links. Predatory financial services targeting service members.
Sexual content and harassment
Sexually explicit content. Sexual harassment in any form. Content that sexualizes minors in any context.
What's Allowed But Moderated Carefully
Criticism of leadership
Allowed when focused on policy, process, and patterns.
Not allowed when it names and targets individuals.
Medical/chaplain experiences
Allowed when focused on facility, process, access, and wait times.
Not allowed when naming specific providers or sharing case details.
Political opinions
Allowed when relevant to military policy.
Not allowed when it becomes partisan attacks or campaign content.
Profanity
Allowed. It's a military platform. We're adults.
Not allowed when part of hate speech or targeted harassment.
Dark humor
Allowed. Military humor is dark.
Not allowed when it crosses into mocking victims or targeting groups.
Enforcement
Progressive enforcement:
- Content removal with notification explaining why
- Formal warning citing the specific standard violated
- Temporary posting restriction
- Permanent ban
We skip straight to permanent ban for:
- Doxxing or identity exposure
- Threats of violence
- Serious OPSEC violations
- Child safety violations
- Coordinated harassment
All moderation actions are logged. Moderators are veterans. Appeals are reviewed by a different moderator than the one who acted.

Honest MOS is a private platform. The First Amendment protects you from government censorship. It does not entitle you to a megaphone here.
You have every right to express honest opinions and experiences. You do not have the right to use this platform to harm others.
Honesty and hatred are not the same thing. We built this for the first one.
