On-base housing (Lincoln Military Housing) is limited and competitive. Off-base San Diego is expensive — $2,500-$3,800 for a 3BR in Mira Mesa, Scripps Ranch, or Poway. Santee and El Cajon are cheaper but farther. BAH consistently falls short of market rent.

Main gate off Rivers Avenue — can be congested during peak hours. I-26 corridor between Summerville and the base is the main commute route and gets heavy. Living in Goose Creek or Hanahan shortens the commute significantly.
Main gate off I-15 at Miramar Way. I-15 traffic is notorious — budget 30-45 min to get anywhere during rush hour. The 15/52/163 interchange is a daily headache. Living east of the base (Scripps Ranch, Poway) avoids the worst of it.
