About This Condition

Chronic inflammation of the paranasal sinuses affecting one or more sinus cavities, causing nasal congestion, facial pain or pressure, and reduced sense of smell. Veterans with burn pit exposure commonly develop sinusitis as particulate matter and chemical irritants inflame the sinus mucosa. The PACT Act recognizes chronic sinusitis as a presumptive condition for eligible veterans.

Evidence Needed

  • Diagnosis from primary care or ENT
  • CT scan of sinuses (if available)
  • Documentation of recurrent or chronic episodes
  • Medical records showing onset after deployment
