About This Condition

Progressive scarring of lung tissue that stiffens the lungs and reduces oxygen transfer, producing a dry cough and increasing breathlessness. Pulmonary fibrosis is a PACT Act presumptive condition strongly associated with inhaled toxic and particulate exposure, and is rated on pulmonary function testing.

Evidence Needed

  • Pulmonary function tests (including DLCO)
  • High-resolution CT scan of the chest
  • Physician or pulmonology diagnosis
  • Documentation of deployment to a qualifying location
