About This Condition
Inflammation of the pleura — the membranes lining the lungs and chest cavity — causing sharp chest pain that worsens with breathing, and sometimes fluid buildup (pleural effusion). Pleuritis is a PACT Act presumptive condition, rated on any residual restrictive lung impairment.
Evidence Needed
- Physician diagnosis of pleuritis/pleurisy
- Chest imaging (X-ray or CT)
- Pulmonary function tests for any restrictive residuals
- Documentation of deployment to a qualifying location
