About This Condition

A widespread musculoskeletal pain disorder accompanied by fatigue, sleep disturbances, cognitive difficulties, and heightened pain sensitivity. Fibromyalgia has a significantly elevated prevalence among Gulf War veterans, and the VA recognizes it as a Gulf War presumptive condition. It is diagnosed based on symptom criteria (no longer requiring tender-point examination).
