Can a Occupational Therapist transfer a license to Virginia as a military spouse?
Yes. Virginia is a member of the Occupational Therapy Licensure Compact (OT Compact), so a Occupational Therapist holding a multistate/compact license can practice in VA without re-applying. Compact provides clear portability — military spouses with OT licenses should join the compact for maximum flexibility.
Your occupational therapy licensing board in Virginia
Under Virginia Code 54.1-119 (HB 967 and SB 981) a DHP board such as the Board of Medicine, which licenses occupational therapists, must determine within 20 days whether a military spouse out-of-state license is substantially equivalent and, if so, issue a full Virginia license, otherwise issue a temporary license.
