ASVAB M Score
Mechanical (Air Force)
What M Measures
The Air Force M composite gates maintenance, vehicle operations, and mechanical AFSC. It's the Air Force equivalent of the Army MM composite, with GS added to reflect the higher technical standards of Air Force maintenance. Jobs requiring high M scores include aircraft maintainers, vehicle operators, and structural specialists.
Aircraft and vehicle maintenance requires mechanical visualization (MC), practical shop knowledge (AS), and the scientific fundamentals behind the equipment (GS). The Air Force specifically includes GS because its maintenance doctrine is more theory-intensive than the Army's.

How to Improve Your M Score
Subtests ranked by impact on your M score. Improving the top-ranked subtest first maximizes cross-composite benefit.
Levers, gears, pulleys, fluid systems. Draw it before you calculate it. MC feeds Army ST, SC, MM.
Tools, engine systems, shop safety. Video beats text for hands-on learners. AS feeds Army CO, GM, MM.
Physics and chemistry fundamentals. GS feeds Army EL, FA, GM.
