About This Installation
Principal base of the Chilean Navy and home to ASMAR (Astilleros y Maestranzas de la Armada), Chile's naval shipyard. Houses the Scorpène-class O'Higgins and Carrera submarines, Type 23 frigates, and landing ships. One of the most capable naval maintenance facilities in South America. Heavily damaged in the 2010 earthquake and tsunami but fully rebuilt.
