Every army has one
規則通りの人 (Kisoku-dōri no hito) — "By-the-rules person"— the Japanese equivalent of the barrack room lawyer
The JSDF member who knows every Jieitai Hou (Self-Defense Forces Act) provision and internal regulation — and applies them meticulously, often to the frustration of superiors who prefer informal resolution. In a military that values group harmony (wa) above individual assertion, this is a distinctive personality.
Japanese military culture operates on high-context communication and strong unit cohesion norms. The regulations expert is effective but operates carefully — direct confrontation with hierarchy is avoided even when the regs are clearly on your side. The art is using the rules while maintaining face for everyone involved.
