Chaplain Assistant
71MChappy's bodyguard
Served: 1965–2001
Bodyguard, driver, admin, and operational planner for unit chaplains — the only soldier in the chapel allowed to carry a rifle.
The Story
Per the Army Chaplain Corps' own history office, the role traces continuously to WWI's "Chaplain's Orderly." The MOS code has changed at least four times; the job (drive the chaplain, guard the chaplain, type the chaplain's letters) has not.
Epitaph
“Same job since 1918. Four code changes. Counting.”
