You'll spend more of your actual life in San Diego, CA or Kin, Okinawa, Japan than on any range. That's worth weighing. Camp Hansen runs medium cost of living — BAH builds actual savings. MCAS Miramar runs extreme — BAH builds actual anxiety. Same rank, same base pay, wildly different bank statements. Weather: MCAS Miramar serves Perfect year-round — dry, sunny, mild. Camp Hansen counters with Subtropical — hot humid, typhoon season. Your uniform was designed for approximately neither.

On-base housing (Lincoln Military Housing) is limited and competitive. Off-base San Diego is expensive — $2,500-$3,800 for a 3BR in Mira Mesa, Scripps Ranch, or Poway. Santee and El Cajon are cheaper but farther. BAH consistently falls short of market rent.
On-base barracks for most single Marines. Limited family housing — most accompanied families live off-base in Kin or Chatan area with OHA. Japanese apartments are small but well-built. Off-base living requires adjusting to Japanese norms.
