Local Waukegan/Gurnee market is retail and healthcare focused. Chicago (45 min by Metra) has a massive job market — finance, tech, healthcare, consulting. Lake County has pharmaceutical companies (AbbVie, Takeda).

Naval Health Clinic Charleston — clinic-level care on the weapons station. MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina) is 15 min away in downtown Charleston — a Level I trauma center and one of the best teaching hospitals in the Southeast.
Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center — combined VA/DoD facility. Full hospital services. Good care but can be busy with VA patients. Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital nearby for emergencies.
Gate Commute
Main gate off Rivers Avenue — can be congested during peak hours. I-26 corridor between Summerville and the base is the main commute route and gets heavy. Living in Goose Creek or Hanahan shortens the commute significantly.
Main gate on Buckley Road — morning delays moderate during training cycles. Route 137 and Sheridan Road are main arteries. Metra train from Great Lakes station is a plus for Chicago commuters.
