The trade-offs: Killeen itself is functional rather than charming, the school district (Killeen ISD) is uneven and most career families chase Belton or Copperas Cove ISD, the summer heat is structurally limiting from June through September, and Austin is technically 'an hour away' but realistic Friday-evening I-35 traffic makes that two-and-a-half on a bad day.
