Got a wild idea? We build for service members — not the brass, not shareholders. If it's good, it ships.

UMass Amherst's Minuteman Battalion has existed since 1867 — one of the oldest programs in the country — and today serves as the hub for one of the largest ROTC consortiums in New England, including Smith College, Mount Holyoke, Amherst College, Hampshire College, Springfield College, Westfield State, and American International College. That Five College network means cadets train alongside some of the most academically selective students in the country, which elevates the intellectual culture inside the battalion. UMass is the flagship public university of Massachusetts, and the program draws cadets from the full range of STEM, business, and social science programs — creating diverse branch career pathways. The Minuteman Battalion is the largest commissioning source in New England and competes in the 2nd Brigade, where Ranger Challenge competition against other northeastern programs is physically demanding. The Massachusetts Army National Guard's 26th Infantry Division traces its roots to WWI and offers strong in-state post-commissioning pathways. Scholarships are competitive at UMass due to program size, but the national scholarship market rewards high PT scores and GPA, both of which are tracked carefully here.
