Largest Non-Service-Academy Commissioning Program

Texas A&M commissions more ROTC officers than any other university in the country that is not a service academy. The scale is not symbolic — it means more cadre resources, more scholarship slots, stronger alumni networks at every installation, and commissioning ceremonies that actually feel like major institutional events.

The Aggie Network Is Real

The Texas A&M alumni network extends into every major military installation, defense contractor, and federal agency. Aggie senior officers actively seek out and mentor junior officers with Aggie credentials. This is not a soft benefit — it translates to assignment assistance, mentorship at key career decision points, and doors opened that peers from other schools cannot access.

Corps of Cadets Priority Housing

Texas A&M Corps of Cadets members receive priority placement in dedicated Corps Hall housing. Living in the Corps Hall — surrounded by cadets from all five branches — creates a peer environment that accelerates leadership development in ways a standard dorm environment cannot replicate.

About This Program

Det 805 at Texas A&M is the largest AFROTC detachment in the United States, with over 750 cadets enrolled in a normal academic year — commissioning more Air Force officers than any of the other 144 detachments nationwide. Being a Senior Military College means all cadets are embedded in the Corps of Cadets alongside Army ROTC, creating a uniquely high-intensity military culture that civilian ROTC programs cannot replicate: formations, military courtesies, and uniformed campus life are the baseline, not the exception. The detachment was named best in the nation in 2016 and sustains a 96 percent selection rate for flying duty for those who compete. The Aggie network in the Air Force is substantial — A&M graduates have each other's backs across assignments. The sheer size means both the most competition and the most resources: flight simulators, Arnold Air Society chapters, and a cadre with deep operational experience.
