Got a wild idea? We build for service members — not the brass, not shareholders. If it's good, it ships.

The Mighty Hawkeye Battalion at the University of Iowa has been commissioning officers since 1917 and is one of the older programs in the Midwest, with more than 100 years of continuous operation. The program is smaller than neighboring Iowa State, which means cadets often receive more individualized attention from cadre and have greater opportunity to take on leadership roles earlier in their cadet career. Commissioning ceremonies have drawn general officer keynote speakers, including a First Army Commanding General, suggesting the program maintains solid Army relationships. Iowa City's location in eastern Iowa draws cadets who feed into the Iowa Army National Guard as well as active duty, and the program collaborates with nearby Northern Iowa's Panther Battalion for some regional training events. Branch selection tends to reflect the national OML distribution, with no pronounced tilt toward a specific branch. The program is housed under the Veterans and Military Community organization, giving it visibility and support across campus.
