Auburn's War Eagle Battalion has been producing officers since 1916 and sits 52 miles from Fort Moore (formerly Ft. Benning), the home of the Infantry and Armor schools — one of the strongest geographic advantages of any ROTC program in the country. That proximity means cadets can observe and interact with Active Duty officers training at the Maneuver Center of Excellence, and the cadre often leverage those connections for mentorship and branch exposure visits. The battalion competes in the 6th Brigade and has consistently been cited as one of the top programs in that region. Auburn's engineering and science colleges feed technically strong cadets into the battalion, which creates a competitive pool for MI, Cyber, and Signal branches. Branch selection at Auburn skews toward combat arms and the South's strong National Guard networks, with the 167th Theater Sustainment Command in Decatur providing Reserve component pathways. The War Eagle tradition and strong alumni base means commissioned lieutenants have a ready network across the Army.
