ASVAB A Score

Administrative (Air Force)

FormulaVE + AR + MK= WK + PC + AR + MK

What A Measures

The Air Force A composite gates administrative, financial, and support AFSCs. It's G (VE + AR) plus MK — adding mathematical knowledge to the general aptitude baseline. Admin jobs in the Air Force are more quantitatively demanding than their Army equivalents, reflecting the Air Force's culture of precision and documentation.

Administrative roles require reading and writing clearly (VE), performing calculations accurately (AR), and applying algebraic and mathematical reasoning to financial records, logistics data, and scheduling (MK).

44Entry-level A requirement for admin AFSCs
55Qualifies for most Air Force administrative roles
63Competitive for finance, contracting, and intel admin roles

How to Improve Your A Score

Subtests ranked by impact on your A score. Improving the top-ranked subtest first maximizes cross-composite benefit.

#1WKWord Knowledge

VE is in A. Every WK point improves G and A simultaneously.

#2MKMathematics Knowledge

The A-exclusive differentiator from G. Algebra, fractions, percentages. MK feeds ST, EL, GM.

#3PCParagraph Comprehension

Same VE leverage as WK.

#4ARArithmetic Reasoning

Shared with G. Word problems, not equations.

The Insight

A = G + MK. Study for G first, then add MK. Since A and G share VE + AR, your G study sessions are 100% applicable to A prep. Once G feels solid, 2 weeks on Khan Academy Algebra 1 typically yields the MK improvement needed to push A into competitive range.
