What the recruiter won't tell you
The +50% AMOS uplift is paid only on days when you are physically deployed in a designated mission area. Garrison duty in Italy reverts to the base gross. Some missions also pay a lower AMOS rate than the headline number — read the specific mission decree.
Conversion from the one-year (VFP1) to the four-year (VFP4) volunteer contract depends on annual posto availability, evaluation scores, and competitive selection. There is no automatic right of renewal.
On top of IRPEF, military personnel pay INPDAP contributions and regional/communal taxes. Real net can be 5–8% lower than a flat-27% IRPEF estimate, especially for higher grades.
Barracks housing, mess hall meals, and military healthcare via ASL militari carry significant cash-equivalent value, but they are tied to the duty station. They evaporate when you are off-base or transferred.
