ICG officers and sailors conduct EEZ patrol, anti-smuggling, anti-poaching, and coastal surveillance operations along India's 7,516 km coastline. The Coast Guard operates fast patrol vessels, offshore patrol vessels, and helicopters. Post-26/11 Mumbai attacks, the ICG's mandate expanded significantly — coastal surveillance is now a genuine national security function, not just fisheries enforcement. Officers receive training at National Maritime Search and Rescue training centers.
