Bangladesh Navy sailors serve aboard the fleet that patrols the Bay of Bengal and the country's 118,813 square-kilometre Exclusive Economic Zone. Bangladesh's coastline and EEZ are operationally real: the Bay of Bengal fisheries are economically vital, piracy and smuggling are documented threats, and cyclone response is a regular naval mission. The fleet includes frigates and patrol craft acquired from China, South Korea, and the UK. Bangladesh Navy also participates in UN PKO missions, deploying maritime and engineering elements. Life at sea means time away from home and the physical realities of shipboard life.
