Space Force Core Values & the Guardian Ideal

The Text — Word for Word

Character — Guardians live honorably. Connection — Guardians take care of each other and their families. Commitment — Guardians are resilient and mission-focused. Courage — Guardians take smart risks and foster a culture of innovation.

What it actually means

Straight answer first: the Space Force does not have a "creed" in the way the older services do — no memorize-it-word-for-word paragraph. What it has is four core values — Character, Connection, Commitment, Courage — under a framework called the Guardian Ideal, plus a set of "Guardian Commitment" statements. As the newest branch (stood up in 2019), the Space Force is still writing its traditions, and it chose values-and-culture language over a fixed recited creed. If a site tells you there is an official "Guardian’s Creed," be skeptical — treat any recited version as unofficial unless it points to a Space Force publication.

Where it came from

The four values and the Guardian Ideal were unveiled in September 2021 by the first Chief of Space Operations, General John "Jay" Raymond, at the Air Force Association conference. The Guardian Spirit handbook followed. The Space Force itself was established in December 2019.
