Navy Core Values
Honor — "I will bear true faith and allegiance..." Conduct yourself with the highest ethical and moral standards; be honest and truthful; be accountable. Courage — "I will support and defend..." The value that gives a Sailor the moral and mental strength to do what is right, even in the face of personal or professional adversity. Commitment — "I will obey the orders..." The day-to-day duty to work as a team, treat others with respect and dignity, and demand honest and quality work of one another.
What it actually means
Honor, Courage, Commitment — the same three the Marine Corps uses, because both are the Department of the Navy. Sailors tie each value to a line of the Sailor’s Creed, which is how the two get taught together. The working reality: "Commitment" here is mostly about how you treat your shipmates and the quality of your work when the deployment is long and nobody is checking.
Where it came from
Formally adopted as the Navy’s core values and woven through recruit training and the Sailor’s Creed. Shared with the Marine Corps as the Department of the Navy’s values.
