Why Civilian Translation Matters

One of the most common questions recruits ask is: “What can I do with this AFSC after I get out?” The answer varies dramatically. Some codes give you industry-recognized certifications and directly applicable skills. Others give you leadership experience that's valuable but harder to translate on a resume.

Our civilian career translation score comes directly from service members who have either separated and transitioned to civilian careers, or who have worked closely enough with the civilian sector to evaluate the crossover potential.

Keep in mind: a lower translation score does not mean a bad AFSC. It means the skills may be more military-specific. Many service members with “non-translatable” codes leverage their leadership, discipline, and security clearances into excellent civilian careers through programs like VET TEC, SkillBridge, and GI Bill-funded education.
