What It's Actually Like
Rescue swimmer school is physically and psychologically demanding with intentional attrition. The candidates who make it are self-selected for the specific combination of physical capability, calm under pressure, and water competence that open-ocean rescue requires. Once you're wearing the rescue swimmer wings, the job is exactly what it says: you jump into conditions that are actively trying to kill the people you're rescuing, and you bring them back.
