Service Academy Toolkit · Tool 3 of 4

Whole Candidate Score (WCS) Calculator

60% academic, 30% Community Leader, 10% physical. Enter your numbers — we'll show the weighted distribution and tell you which area to fix first.

What this is — and what it isn't

The exact internal WCS formula is not publicly published. This tool uses the documented 60/30/10 weighting plus published academic and physical conversion guidance to produce a relative position estimate on a 0–100 scale (NOT an actual scaled WCS number). The output tells you where you stand within the framework and which area carries the most upside.

Community Leader · 30% of WCS

Check everything that applies. Quality over quantity — academies look for sustained commitment and leadership roles, not box-checking.

Physical · 10% of WCS

Your CFA band. Use /tools/cfa-calculator if you need to figure out your band.

Significant Gaps

Significant gap to admitted-candidate range. Pick the area with most upside and focus.

Reality check: The exact internal WCS formula is West Point IP. The ~576 above is a calibrated ballpark — not an official score. If West Point's actual conversion lands ±400 from ours, that's normal. We say so because the paid calculators don't.

Improve this first: Academic. It carries the highest weighted upside in your file (60 potential points). For academic: study test prep + retake. For Community Leader: take on a captain or president role now. For Physical: see /tools/cfa-calculator.
Methodology

Top-level weighting (60% academic / 30% Community Leader / 10% physical) is from published West Point admissions guidance. Sub-bucket conversions (SAT/ACT → score, GPA → score, rank → score) are calibrated to publicly reported admitted-class medians and ranges from CDS data and West Point's admitted-class profile. The Community Leader sub-formula is a structured self-assessment based on the documented categories academies value (varsity participation, leadership roles, sustained service). Output is a relative position on 0–100, NOT an actual scaled WCS number — the exact internal conversion is not publicly published. No fabricated percentiles.
