ASVAB FA Score

Field Artillery

FormulaAR + MK + GS= AR + MK + GS

What FA Measures

FA is a math-and-science composite used for field artillery and fire support MOS. The 13F Fire Support Specialist requires FA:96 — the highest FA threshold in the dataset. Fire support work involves calculating firing data, plotting grids, adjusting fires, and coordinating between ground and air assets.

Artillery is applied physics. AR tests word-problem arithmetic (range calculations, ammunition math). MK tests algebraic and trigonometric concepts used in ballistic calculations. GS tests the physics principles behind projectile motion and explosives.

How to Improve Your FA Score

Subtests ranked by impact on your FA score. Improving the top-ranked subtest first maximizes cross-composite benefit.

#1MKMathematics Knowledge

Algebra and geometry for ballistic calculations. MK feeds ST, EL, GM, A simultaneously.

#2GSGeneral Science

Physics — especially forces and motion — directly applies to fire support. GS feeds EL, GM, M.

#3ARArithmetic Reasoning

Practical arithmetic under time pressure. FA, GT, and EL all share AR.

The Insight

FA is the most math-dense composite after EL. If you're targeting 13F and struggling with FA, MK is almost always the culprit. Khan Academy Algebra 1 — specifically equations, ratios, and unit conversions — covers the core gap for most recruits.
