Air Command and Control Officer
Plans, directs, and coordinates air support missions for MAGTF operations. Manages combat airspace and the delivery of kinetic and non-kinetic aviation fires in support of ground forces, and coordinates deep air support, electronic warfare, aerial refueling, and designated aerial reconnaissance. Responsible for the planning, preparation, movement, emplacement, and operation of air support equipment and tactical data systems, for processing immediate close air support, CASEVAC, and MEDEVAC requests, and for procedurally controlling aircraft throughout the MAGTF area of operations. Normally works in the Direct Air Support Center or a subordinate element co-located with the ground combat element. Created 1 October 2025 by the merger of 7208 and 7210 (MARADMIN 248/25). Grades Capt to 2ndLt.

This MOS did not exist before 1 October 2025 — it is 7208 (air support) and 7210 (air defense) welded together so the Corps has officers who can run a Multifunction Air Operations Center instead of one half of it. Practically, you are in the DASC, co-located with the GCE, and the job is real-time triage: whose request gets aircraft, how the airspace deconflicts, and whether the fires you are integrating are going to hurt anyone friendly. The Basic School does not prepare you for the cognitive load of that watch position and nobody pretends otherwise. Pipeline is the Aviation Command and Control Commons Course followed by the Air Command and Control Officers Course, both at Twentynine Palms. After that the skill-enhancement ladder is long and genuinely useful — JAOC2C, the Multi-TDL and Link-16 courses, JICO, and the MAWTS-1 courses including WTI. Officers senior to you were commissioned into one legacy half of this job; the ones who held a Senior Air Director qualification were grandfathered straight across, and the rest are retraining. You need normal color vision and a secret clearance.
