Joint Base CharlestonNaval Health Clinic Charleston — clinic-level care on the weapons station. MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina) is 15 min away in downtown Charleston — a Level I trauma center and one of the best teaching hospitals in the Southeast.
Joint Base McGuire-Dix-LakehurstMcGuire Medical Clinic — large clinic but not a hospital. Deborah Heart and Lung Center (10 min) is excellent. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick (45 min) for complex care. Philadelphia hospitals are world-class and about 45 min away.
Gate Commute
Joint Base CharlestonMain gate off Rivers Avenue — can be congested during peak hours. I-26 corridor between Summerville and the base is the main commute route and gets heavy. Living in Goose Creek or Hanahan shortens the commute significantly.
Joint Base McGuire-Dix-LakehurstBase spans three installations over 42,000 acres — cross-base drives are 20-30 minutes. Main McGuire gate off Route 539 can back up at peak times. The NJ Turnpike (Exit 7/7A) is the lifeblood and bottleneck — rush hour traffic is real.
