MCAS New River
MCAS New River is technically its own base, but let's be honest — it's Camp Lejeune's roommate who happens to have helicopters and a marginally better parking situation. Everything that's true about Jacksonville, NC applies here: the title loan offices, the vape shops, the Applebee's that functions as fine dining, and the existential certainty that this town would not exist without the military-industrial complex. The constant sound of Ospreys, Hueys, and Cobras reminds you at all hours that tiltrotor technology doesn't care about your sleep schedule, your phone call with your mom, or your attempt to watch a movie in peace. The V-22 Osprey is either an engineering marvel or a flying existential crisis depending on who you ask, and you will develop opinions about it that rival political convictions. If you're rotary wing, this is Mecca. If you're ground side, you're at Lejeune and you already know your fate. The flight line has more personality than the town, the chow hall is better than it has any right to be, and the Marines here will defend this place with irrational pride while simultaneously admitting it's terrible.
