Got a wild idea? We build for service members — not the brass, not shareholders. If it's good, it ships.
Suggest a Feature →Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory
Calibrates and maintains measurement equipment used throughout Air Force maintenance operations. Ensures the accuracy of all test equipment used to maintain aircraft and other systems.
“You'll calibrate the equipment that calibrates the equipment — the metrology specialists who ensure that every test instrument in the Air Force reads accurately. PMEL is the technical foundation of all maintenance quality. Civilian metrology careers in manufacturing, aerospace, and laboratory settings pay well and military PMEL training is directly applicable.”
PMEL is the career field that nobody knows exists until the calibration sticker is expired and a quality assurance inspector shows up. You calibrate multimeters, oscilloscopes, and specialized test equipment to NIST-traceable standards using laboratory equipment that requires its own calibration. The precision measurement and laboratory skills transfer to civilian metrology, quality assurance, and test equipment careers. The work is detail-intensive, largely indoor, and regularly invisible to the rest of the maintenance world — until it isn't.
