Not an annual pass and not a discount — a free lifetime America the Beautiful pass, good at NPS, USFWS, USFS, BLM, Bureau of Reclamation, and Army Corps sites. NPS defines a veteran as anyone who has served in the US Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves; there is no minimum time in service and no discharge-character test stated on the pass page. Gold Star Families are the next of kin of a service member who lost their life in a qualifying situation, such as a war, an international terrorist attack, or a military operation outside the United States. The pass admits everyone in one private vehicle, or the holder plus three adults where per-person fees apply. Currently serving members get the Military Annual Pass instead.
