ASVAB CL Score

Clerical

FormulaVE + AR= WK + PC + AR

What CL Measures

CL is the gateway to administrative, finance, and personnel MOS. It uses the same formula as GT — so if you've been studying for GT, you've been studying for CL. The required minimums for CL jobs tend to be in the 90–95 range, making it more accessible than GT jobs that require 107+.

Admin and finance jobs demand clear communication and numerical accuracy. VE (verbal expression) ensures you can read and write instructions correctly. AR ensures you can handle calculations — leave balances, pay records, budget figures — without making arithmetic errors.

How to Improve Your CL Score

Subtests ranked by impact on your CL score. Improving the top-ranked subtest first maximizes cross-composite benefit.

#1WKWord Knowledge

Most impactful since VE feeds both CL and GT simultaneously.

#2PCParagraph Comprehension

Same multiplier as WK for all VE-dependent scores.

#3ARArithmetic Reasoning

The non-VE component. Word problems with one or two arithmetic steps.

The Insight

CL = GT mathematically. If a job requires both GT:100 and CL:90, the GT requirement is the binding constraint — meet GT:100 and you automatically meet CL:100. Don't study for CL separately; focus entirely on GT.
