Graves Registration Specialist
GRREG
Served: 1917–1991
Recovered, identified, and buried American dead — first overseas mission was 19 QM Graves Registration companies dispatched across France from Tours in 1917–1918.
The Story
Per the QM Museum: the QM Corps has been responsible for the Army's dead since 1867 — older than most combat branches. The 1991 name change happened quietly, between Desert Storm and the formal stand-up of the Joint Mortuary Affairs Center.
Epitaph
“Buried America's dead for 124 years under one name. The next century gets a softer one.”
