On-base privatized housing (Balfour Beatty) has short waitlists by AF standards. Off-base, Wylie ISD zone (south Abilene) is the family choice. Abilene ISD zone is cheaper and adequate. Wylie ISD is the consensus best — Wylie HS, Wylie Junior HS, and feeders consistently outperform regional averages. Abilene ISD is functional, with Cooper HS and Abilene HS as the two main public options; specific elementary feeders are better than others.
