Virtual Business Address
Because your home address does not belong in a public database.
What it actually is
A commercial address you can use as your business address, where mail is received and either scanned or forwarded to you. Legally it is a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency, which is why setting one up involves a notarized USPS form and two forms of ID rather than a checkout button.
Do you need it?
If you have a real commercial location, no. If you are running the business out of your quarters, your barracks room, or a rental you will leave in eighteen months — yes, and for a better reason than convenience.
What changes if you’re in uniform
Business filings are public records. The address you put on your articles of organization is searchable by anyone, forever, including people who are unhappy with your business. For most civilians that is a nuisance. If you live on an installation, or you are a spouse running a business from base housing, that is your family's front door in a public database. Treat the address on a state filing the same way you would treat any other piece of information you would not post publicly. This is OPSEC, not paranoia, and it is the reason this service is second on the list instead of last.
Doing it yourself
You file with
Any commercial mail receiving agency, or your own commercial lease
- Pick a provider with a real street address (a PO box is rejected by most states for the business address on filings).
- Complete and notarize USPS PS Form 1583 and provide two forms of ID — this is a federal requirement for mail received through an agent, not a vendor upsell.
- Use the address on your filings and update it with the state if you change providers.
Cost: Providers price this monthly or annually and the range is wide. The notarization is on you. There is no free version that is also a valid street address.
Our call
Cheap relative to what it protects. If the alternative is publishing your housing address in a permanent public record, this is the easiest call on the page.
If you’d rather pay someone
Bizee lists virtual business address at $29 as of 11 August 2026. You still pay any state fee on top of that.
