SDVBE certification — and a 20% disability threshold you will not find elsewhere
Free; valid 3 years; 30–45 days to process
Tennessee sets a numeric floor most states do not: the owner must have served honorably on active duty with at least a TWENTY PERCENT service-connected disability, incurred or aggravated in the line of duty. Most states simply require the VA to have found some service-connected disability, so a veteran with a 10% rating who qualifies in California or New York does not qualify here. The business must also be a continuing, independent, for-profit business located in Tennessee that performs a commercially useful function, at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more service-disabled veterans. Certification is free, filed online, and runs three years — worth noting against the Persons with Disabilities category, which GO-BID certifies for only one.
