Veteran business benefits in Mississippi (2026)

Published by the Honest MOS Editorial DeskVerified against DoD/.gov sourcesUpdated August 2026Editorial standards

Mississippi has 1 verified program for veteran-owned businesses. Everything below is cited to the statute or official program page it came from, with the date we last checked it — because these programs get amended and repealed, and a confident page with a dead benefit on it costs you a filing fee.

Mississippi has one confirmed benefit for veteran-owned businesses, and it is a good one that hardly anybody uses: VA-certified veteran-owned small businesses are an eligible category for the state surplus property programme. We could not confirm a veteran procurement preference in Mississippi either way — the state procurement manual defeated every route we tried — so this page lists what is verified and does not guess at the rest.

Federal surplus property — VA-certified veteran businesses are an eligible category

The Mississippi Office of Surplus Property, organised in 1946, lets eligible organisations acquire surplus goods from both the federal and state government — and the Department of Finance and Administration lists "Veteran Owned Small Business — Businesses certified by the VA" among the eligible organisations. This is the federal Public Law 115-416 channel, and it is the most under-used veteran business benefit in the country: vehicles, machinery and equipment at surplus prices, with no bid to win and no competitive process to survive. VA certification is the gate, so if you are not already VetCert-verified, start there.

Who qualifiesVeteran-owned small businesses certified by the VA. Veteran service organisations recognised by the VA — the American Legion, VFW and similar — are separately eligible.

Check which of the programs above you actually qualify for before you spend anything on formation services. The state benefits are worth more than any discount a vendor will offer you.
