The base sits on the Illinois side of St. Louis, so your mailing address says Belleville but your heart says Pappy's Smokehouse, Sugarfire, and Bogart's — the St. Louis BBQ holy trinity that will ruin you for base-adjacent dining forever. The cost of living is laughably low: three-bedroom houses for the price of a Bay Area parking spot. Cardinals baseball is religion — Busch Stadium is a cathedral and the fans will judge you harder than any promotion board if you don't know the roster. The MetroLink gets you downtown for games, the City Museum (an adult playground masquerading as a museum), and a food scene that's way better than anyone outside Missouri realizes. Your DTS voucher will take 47 days to process regardless of which command you're in. That's not a Scott problem, that's a TRANSCOM tradition.
