Got a wild idea? We build for service members — not the brass, not shareholders. If it's good, it ships.

Natick Soldier Systems Center develops everything you wear, eat, carry, and complain about in the U.S. military. Someone here decided the Veggie Omelet MRE was acceptable for human consumption, and that person is still employed, which is either a testament to government job security or evidence of a deeply flawed system — possibly both. The scientists, engineers, and researchers here design body armor, rations, clothing systems, and equipment that gets field-tested by soldiers who will provide feedback with a colorfulness that no academic paper could capture. Boston is 20 miles east with world-class everything: the Freedom Trail, Fenway Park, North End Italian food, and a subway system that builds character. The New England charm is real — historic towns, fall foliage that looks photoshopped (it's a legitimate reason to reenlist, and nobody will judge you), and people who'll give you directions aggressively. This assignment feels more like working at Patagonia's R&D lab than the Army. You'll spend your career explaining to people that yes, the Army has scientists, yes they work in a suburb of Boston, and no, they're not just medics with clipboards.
