About This Program

Det 875 at Virginia Tech is the only AFROTC detachment at a Senior Military College where Air Force cadets are embedded alongside Army ROTC in a living Corps of Cadets — a uniformed campus life that is genuinely different from civilian-student ROTC programs. The detachment was ranked the number one large detachment in the nation in a recent AETC evaluation, competing against 47 other large detachments and winning on GPA and physical fitness metrics. The Flyers pilot outreach organization specifically cultivates rated officer mentorship, connecting cadets with active duty pilots before the rated board. Virginia Tech's engineering programs (aerospace, electrical, computer) feed acquisitions, cyber, space, and rated career fields. Langley AFB with its F-22 wing and Air Combat Command headquarters is 200 miles east — not close, but within day-trip mentorship range for a motivated cadet.
