Got a wild idea? We build for service members — not the brass, not shareholders. If it's good, it ships.

Vanderbilt's NROTC battalion is small by design and competitive by necessity — at a school this academically rigorous, everyone who makes it through wears both the midshipman collar devices and a demanding course load. The unit draws from Vanderbilt, Tennessee State, and Belmont University, creating cross-campus cohesion. Vanderbilt's STEM programs feed the submarine and nuclear surface warfare pipeline; midshipmen here are routinely competitive for nuclear officer designators. The culture inside the unit is described as collaborative and tightly bonded — fewer than 25 graduates annually means every officer knows every other officer personally by commissioning. Nashville's distance from the fleet is a reality, but summer cruises compensate.
