About This Program

Det 850 at the University of Utah sits 30 miles south of Hill AFB in Ogden — home of the 388th and 419th Fighter Wings (F-35A Lightning II), the Ogden Air Logistics Complex (one of the Air Force's three major depot maintenance centers), and a growing Space Force presence. The F-35 community, logistics depot culture, and acquisitions environment at Hill make the career field exposure here exceptional: cadets can touch all three simultaneously. The detachment cross-enrolls from BYU, Utah Valley, Westminster, Ensign College, and Embry-Riddle and Park campuses at Hill AFB itself — which means some cadets literally take ROTC classes on the flight line's doorstep. Utah's outdoor culture, high altitude, and LDS-majority demographics (similar to BYU, with returned missionaries common) shape a physically prepared, disciplined cadet corps.
