University of Portland provides contracted ROTC cadets on National, Campus-Based, or Minuteman scholarships with a full room and board scholarship — approximately $18,000 in annual value. This benefit extends to cadets from all Pilot Battalion / Det 695 affiliate schools who choose to live on UP's campus. It is not widely advertised and is rare among private universities.
University of Portland hosts AFROTC Detachment 695, one of the largest consortium detachments in the Pacific Northwest. Det 695 has operated continuously for over 65 years and serves affiliate schools across the Portland metro area including Portland State, Pacific University, Lewis & Clark, Reed College, and more than a dozen others. Leadership Lab and military science classes are held in Kenna Hall on UP's campus. Cadets commission into the United States Air Force or Space Force. UP's proximity to Portland International Airport — a joint-use installation shared with the Oregon Air National Guard's 142nd Wing — gives AFROTC cadets aviation context unavailable at most detachments.
