Got a wild idea? We build for service members — not the brass, not shareholders. If it's good, it ships.

UC Berkeley's NROTC unit, headquartered at the original home of NROTC when Berkeley was one of the six founding programs in 1926, draws 50-60 midshipmen from Berkeley, UC Davis, Stanford University, and California Maritime Academy. Berkeley's history with ROTC is complicated — the program survived campus opposition during the Vietnam era and has operated with varying degrees of institutional visibility ever since — but the current unit is active, competitive, and draws genuinely mission-driven students willing to commit within an environment that doesn't uniformly celebrate military service. The cross-campus composition from Stanford and UC Davis adds academic range. Service selection includes all warfare communities, with a notable number of Berkeley-educated officers entering the intelligence and information warfare communities given the campus's policy and technology research depth. Cal Maritime's participation brings maritime seamanship depth.
