About This Program

Det 017 at Troy University is one of AFROTC's most geographically distinctive programs: Troy sits 50 miles from Maxwell AFB, home of Air University — the Air Force's entire graduate and professional military education complex, Officer Training School, and the intellectual center of airpower doctrine. Troy cadets routinely train on Maxwell grounds and absorb an Air Force institutional culture that most other detachments experience only during summer training. The You Can Fly scholarship program has sent Troy cadets to Maxwell to pursue private pilot training — actual flight time during the ROTC program. Troy's multiple satellite campuses (including a presence at Maxwell/Gunter Annex itself) make it perhaps the most Air University-integrated civilian AFROTC program in the system. Small cohort size means intensive cadre mentorship.
