Got a wild idea? We build for service members — not the brass, not shareholders. If it's good, it ships.

SUNY Maritime College's NROTC New York City Battalion is the largest Naval ROTC unit in the metropolitan New York area, drawing midshipmen from SUNY Maritime, Fordham University, Columbia University, and Molloy College. The battalion is headquartered at SUNY Maritime's Throggs Neck campus on Long Island Sound, providing a genuinely maritime training environment — seamanship instruction is literal, not metaphorical. Like other maritime schools, SUNY Maritime offers the Strategic Sealift Midshipman Program, allowing qualified students to commission as Strategic Sealift Officers in the Navy Reserve while also earning a Coast Guard merchant mariner license. The NYC Battalion inter-company competition (Captain's Cup) is a signature cultural event. Service selection across the unit spans SWO, submarine, aviation, and Marine communities. New York City serves as an extraordinary backdrop for leadership development, volunteer service, and professional networking with the defense and shipping industries.
