About This Program

Det 775 at the University of South Carolina sits 30 miles from Shaw AFB in Sumter — home of the 20th Fighter Wing (F-16 Fighting Falcons) and Air Forces Central's East Coast hub — one of the most operationally active fighter wings on the East Coast. The Columbia program draws from South Carolina's military-friendly culture and the university's engineering, computer science, and criminology schools. Rated board culture benefits from the F-16 community's proximity: cadets can visit, observe air operations, and connect with instructor pilots before they compete. Fort Jackson — the Army's largest training center — is also in Columbia, creating a joint-service cultural backdrop. MCAS Beaufort (F/A-18 and F-35 Marine wing) is 90 miles south. The career field pipeline here spans rated fighter, airlift, and the logistics and contracting communities.
